This year I decided I wanted to clean up our cleaning up routine, as in, personal hygiene items. We already buy all the “better” lotions, shampoos and conditioners, soaps, and all, but I want to take it a step further because even though some store bought items are better than other store bought items, they still contain some questionable ingredients – preservatives and fragrances better left off my family’s skin. I can do better. I know I can, so my goal for this year is to learn a better way. I will slowly replace the items we use up with higher quality items.
Here are some of the smaller goals I have in mind:
1. Edible ingredients that have a distinct purpose for their use. If I can’t safely put it IN my body it really has no business being put ON my body. And I have no use for superfluous ingredients either. My “better” shampoo has 27 ingredients. Does it really take 27 different elements to get my hair clean? I don’t think I’m quite that dirty. This most likely means I will be making our personal care items – which to me means some fun kitchen experiments.
2. Easy to make. I have two little kids, enough said.
3. Inexpensive. I think this one is already in the bag as we eat a diet consisting of many of the ingredients in homemade hygiene items. I don’t think I’ll have to invest too much.
4. Luxurious. Every girl (and guy, maybe?) wants to feel pampered and have a spa experience every day.
We’ll see how this goes and I’ll update as I replace items.
